ITALIAN POTLUCK! Thursday, April 24 at 6 p.m. in the Multi-purpose Room. $1/per person and bring a dish large enough for 8 to 10 people. This Potluck is limited to 80 people and very well attended so don't delay! Please sign up in the Activities Book.

SOLOS CLUB ACTIVITIES!

On Saturday, April 26, we're going to Spring Garden Ranch for lunch and to watch the Harness Race practices. Please meet at the clubhouse at 12 p.m. to carpool. No reservations are needed.

And join the Solos Club for a Boat Ride on Wednesday, April 30 from Highbanks Marina. Please meet at the Clubhouse at 9 a.m. to carpool. $25 per person.

The Solos Club meets at the Clubhouse every Friday night at 4:15 p.m. for Happy Hour. Come and share some ideas and activities and meet other single neighbors. For more information please contact Margy at 386.228.2308.

SPRINGING INTO SUMMER! Join Gardens residents and naturalists Margaret Goldschneider and John Serrao on a walk through Gardens nature trails and see how the Florida habitat starts changing as the days become longer. Sunday, April 27, 10 a.m. Please meet at back gate trail head.

The CLUBHOUSE will be participating in the Community Wide Yard Sale on Saturday, May 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you have items you would like to donate please bring them to the Clubhouse beginning Saturday, April 26. If you have large items you would like to donate, please call the Resident Services Desk at 386.785.2700 to arrange for pick-up between Monday, April 28 and Friday, May 2. All proceeds will be used to purchase items for the Club that will benefit all Gardens residents.

TENNIS LOVERS: Poker Tennis Round Robin and Pot Luck on Sunday, May 4 from 4 to 6 p.m., $5 per person. After the tournament a potluck is being hosted in the home of Eileen and Mike Dungan at 1388 Brayford Point. Please sign up in the Activities Book. MEN'S CLUB MEETING! Wednesday, May 7. Social time at 6:30 p.m.; program begins at 7 p.m. All Gardens residents are welcome. Our guest speaker will be journalist and editor Pat Rice who will discuss The News-Journal strategy for covering news in Volusia County. Join us for an informational evening to learn about news and the challenge of print versus online access. Mr. Rice has many years of experience in local topics and issues to provide particularly deep insight to various topics that many of you will want to explore, like Sunrail, local government and the economy. This will be the Men's Club last meeting until Fall 2014 so don’t miss it!

GENEALOGY CLUB INTERNET WORKSHOP, Wednesday, May 7. This is a workshop for newbies to the genealogy world and for those who have hit a brick wall in their own searches. Space is limited so sign up soon! There will be two sessions with room for three people per session for a total of 6 spots. The workshop will take place in the Multi-Purpose Room. YOU MUST:

  • Sign up in the Activities Book and select a time slot (two will be available: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.)
  • Have a laptop to bring with you
  • Have a worksheet started

LIBRARY CORNER

BE SURE TO VISIT the Gardens Library on Friday, May 2. There will be several boxes of paperback books available for you to look over and take along with you, free of charge! Any leftover after May 2 will be given to the Volusia County Public Library, DeLand location, for the library to sell. Any proceeds will be used to help Friends of the Library.

Recently, we were asked if we could limit our MAGAZINE DONATIONS to those that are no older than three months by those local nursing homes, DeLand Hospital and Hospice who receive your generous magazine donations. Thank you to all who donate!

RELAY FOR LIFE® OF GREATER DELAND will kick-off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at DeLand Middle School. The Victoria Park Community is encouraged to attend to help support the Victoria Gardens and Victoria Park teams. This is a free fun-filled family/community event with food, games, prizes and live music! Cancer survivors are welcome to come at 6 p.m. and register for the survivor dinner and ceremony! COMMUNITY WIDE YARD SALE! Saturday, May 3, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will be advertising in two local newspapers! You may use balloons, flags or small signs to indicate that your home is open for sales! Please contain your yard sale items to your garage, driveway or yard. Please do not set up on sidewalks, parking spaces or in the road. Additionally, the Community Yard Sale is for selling gently used items. Multiple quantities of new items with tags, in packages, etc., are not permitted. COMMUNITY YARD SALE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: At the conclusion of the Community Yard Sale at 2 p.m., HOUSE of HOPE & RESTORATION will be bringing three trailers through neighborhoods in Victoria Park and Victoria Gardens to collect any items you wish to donate from the yard sale. They will pick up all items that are clean and in working condition. Please place your donated items at the end of your driveway at 2 p.m. House of Hope & Restoration is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization and their main goal is to improve the quality of life for families that need a helping hand.

LETTER CARRIERS' FOOD DRIVE: Saturday, May 10. The annual Postal Service Letter Carriers' Food Drive is easy to participate in. Just fill a grocery bag with your non-perishable food donation and place it by your mailbox on Saturday, May 10. Your postal person will pick it up and deliver it to a local food bank.
